craft print
A fun craft for the kids, these can also be made out of foam to use during circle time, penguin readings, and dramatic play for the duration of the theme. The picture is of a 1 yo and 2 yo I did this craft with. The simple lines make it a perfect craft for younger children to learn teacher assisted cutting, gluing and coloring. Because of their age, I printed the beaks out on orange stock to reduce the amount of coloring. We also used black circles for the eyes with a touch of white-out in the corner, instead of google eyes (choking hazard). For older children doing independently, provide clothes pins to use to secure their gluing as the curves tend to make the items pop off. I would also provide a beak template and have older children trace and cut those as an added skill. I find that 2 strips of 2" X ll" card stock overlapped slightly and secured works fine for the headband for most preschoolers. I usually staple rather than tape these for added strength, and place the front decorative item over the center of the strip to hide some of the staples and have the other set centered in the back.
